Edge Computing: A Catalyst for
Value Generation via CSPs

For every dollar spent on edge computing capacity, analysts predict that enterprises will be spending $25 on the creation of services using edge computing.

We know that CSPs’ infrastructure investments have in the past often fueled financial success for others, principally the global vendors of OTT products. With edge computing, CSPs should avoid this by shifting their business and operating models away from infrastructure towards value propositions for tailored services and apps. After all, spending trillions on 5G and edge computing without offering products and services with a high value added would be like buying beachfront property only to put up a hot dog stand on it.

To monetize service creation on the edge, you need a platform for creating new services by consolidating APIs and presenting unified access to the API framework for both your own and third-party developers. To be the provider of choice for edge services and differentiate your offering, you need more than just a Network Exposure Function (NEF). You need to offer organizations a platform and ecosystem for low-code development of modular and scalable capabilities that are easy to reuse in various contexts and use cases.

With composable applications based on our Telecoms Low-Code Application Platform (T-LCAP), you can enhance your edge computing by implementing individualized services for your business and public sector customers. You don’t have to necessarily offer a comprehensive set of application programming interfaces (APIs) and Packaged Business Capabilities (PBCs); instead you might identify and target specific market opportunities, e.g. for a video PBC. Your offering could then eventually grow into a complete Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS). This enables you to expose PBCs and APIs as well as the citizen and professional developer tools in the T-LCAP to enterprises seeking to compose their own apps running on your edge.

With CSPs within our ecosystem, we also plan to evolve our CPaaS layer into a Marketplace for Composable Apps which will allow third parties to also upload and sell their own PBCs and APIs – regardless of the technology used to create them – to enterprises composing apps on the Marketplace.
